Celiac Is Whack…Tea Thyme Café

I’m always on the hunt for new places to frequent, new things to fiddle with and new foods to try. From Atlanta to Austin, I’ve tried everything from fried green tomatoes to calamari; and I have eaten at both 5-star restaurants and neighborhood hole-in-the-walls. I stumbled upon Tea Thyme Café in the Texas Hill Country and to my surprise; the entire restaurant was 100 percent gluten free. Not bad for a small town that boasts the “best BBQ in Texas” and have more fast food places than I have fingers! Upon walking through the doors, I was warmly greeted by the owners and I felt like I was at home.

The café was spacious, brightly colored, and the walls featured for-sale paintings by various artists. Tea Thyme Café’s menu impressed me because everything was freshly made-to-order; and there was something for every diet including gluten free, vegan and vegetarian; and every set of taste bud featuring pancakes, waffles, tacos, pizza, sandwiches, smoothies, specialty coffee drinks, teas/coffees, and even desserts.

I ordered a cup of espresso roast coffee and the good morning big breakfast which included 2 pancakes, 2 scrambled eggs, and 3 slices of bacon (with a turkey or pork option). I opted for “real bacon” being that I was treating myself but I keep turkey bacon as a staple in my fridge. I only waited about ten minutes for my meal and it all came to my table piping hot. The food was sooooo good and well worth $8.95. The pancakes were so big and Texas-sized; I ate a few bites and took the rest home for the next day.

While enjoying my meal, I got a chance to talk to one of the owners about making my g-free transition and I thanked him for sensitive to people with food allergies. Towards the end of our conversation, he solidified my new found love of his restaurant with a slice of gluten free, sugar free cheesecake. Yes, I just said gluten free and sugar free; and yes, I ate every single crumb of that delicious confection and if given the chance, I would’ve licked the plate too but I was in public!

I give Tea Thyme Café an A+ for being a dedicated gluten free facility, for their friendly staff, great prices, and of course, their wonderful food!
